It’s not just bricks and mortar properties that can benefit from solar power – your caravanning experience could be even greener, as Haven Holidays is proving at its Poole site.
As part of a move to make the company more environmentally friendly as a whole, Haven has been working with manufacturer Willerby to install solar panels on its static caravans situated at Rockley Park.
“The benefits in terms of electrical production won’t be huge, we are looking at a generation of around £200-£300 worth of electrical power per annum. But this could be enough to offset the consumption of the holiday home,” sustainability team member Daniel Coward explained to Out & About Live. “As accommodation accounts for 40% of the park’s consumption, over time this initiative could make a real difference.”
Other changes being made to Haven’s static caravans include installing high efficiency shower heads and an instant heat boost Morco Touch button, which can cut emissions from heating systems by up to a fifth.
It’s not just holiday park operators that can make their static caravan greener – you too can reduce your energy consumption by making sure your caravan is properly insulated and that you are using minimum energy whilst holidaying in your caravan i.e. not filling your kettle to the brim or leaving the heating on full when you’re out and about.
