Park home owners in Scotland have welcomed an announcement by housing minister Margaret Burgess granting them rights to sell their properties through estate agents.
As part of a UK-wide initiative to increase the legal rights of those living in park homes, Ms Burgess revealed the plans for park home sites within Scottish jurisdiction.
Other legislation due to come into force includes restrictions on when site owners can enter the properties at their venue and the automatic right for park home owners to view details of shared bills payable by residents.
“Through public consultations it became apparent that there was increasing evidence that the legislation needed to be strengthened in order to protect the welfare of residents,” said Ms Burgess. “While the majority of park owners provide an ethical and fair service, previous legislation allowed unscrupulous owners to take advantage of residents, many of which are elderly.
“Previous laws meant that owners could only sell their property if the park owner approved the prospective purchaser. There was also no legislation in place when it came to seeing bills shared with other residents.”
