One of the reasons many of our customers enjoy living in a park home or staying at their holiday lodge is the caring community atmosphere, as demonstrated by one Cumbria park’s campaign to protect nature within the local area.
Skelwith Fold Holiday Park near Ambleside has been sending its holiday lodge owners home with a handful of acorns at the end of their stay. This is part of a project by the owners to encourage the planting of more oak trees in the county.
Parts of Cumbria have been affected by ‘sudden oak death’ over recent years, which has led to a drastic decline in the number of healthy, mature trees, and the park operators are concerned the fungus style infection could soon reach its grounds.
Skelwith’s owners hope that its happy holidaymakers will sow the seeds of a new generation of oak trees when they return home, leading to the regeneration of Cumbrian oaks over the years to come.
