Take your own food and drink with you- don’t get ripped off by steep prices if you are staying at a commercialised camp site, think ahead and pack everything you will need!
Freeze bottles of water to keep food and drinks cool- instead of wasting money on buying state of the art ice packs, simply fill up an old drinks bottle and put it in the freezer. It can be re-used as many times as you like, or can be easily thrown away if you need to save space.
Use old shower curtains as a ground mat- for extra protection against damp weather lay a shower curtain under your tent, not only is it a cheap method, it is easily disposable.
Purchase a fire bucket- instead of wasting money buying disposable BBQ’S time and time again, why not purchase a fire bucket? It is compact, reusable and if you look after it well it could last you for years.
Use sealant to waterproof your tent- getting wet from the rain can really ruin a camping trip, so be sure to protect your tent well. A great way to do this is by spraying your tent with sealant to prevent damp getting in.
Make use of things you already have in your house- take old cups, plates, chairs etc. with you on your trip rather than buying expensive camping equipment, it’s likely that it is going to get dirty anyway so there is no point in spending a fortune.
Take outdoor activities with you- keep your children amused by taking outdoor activities such as a bike, swing ball, football or Frisbee with you on your camping trip, it will be a lot cheaper than paying the high prices charged at local attractions.
