The Coast team would like to wish Bourne Leisure, one of Britain’s foremost leisure park operators, a very happy upcoming 50th anniversary.
Known best for their Haven Holidays chain, Bourne Leisure was started by Peter Harris, John Cook and David Allen, who took over the running of Whistable’s Alberta Caravan Park in 1964. Sadly John passed away last year, but Peter and David remain board members of the firm to this day.
The trio of leisure industry entrepreneurs quickly built up a series of holiday parks and floated their company on the stock market in 1972. Shortly afterwards the sites were bought by Rank Group for £20million, and the three gentlemen set about buying ten new holiday parks.
Their plans came full circle at the turn of the century, however, as they bought the business back from Rank Group and merged it with their subsequent portfolio to create a chain of 76 holiday parks under their control.
Although a number of the smaller sites have been sold since then, Bourne Leisure still owns 35 holiday parks across the UK, and it invests more than £40million in these venues each year to ensure holidaymakers receive first-class facilities. From restaurants and swimming pools to golf courses and children’s play areas, Bourne Leisure creates a relaxing and family-orientated environment where you can enjoy a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Here’s to another fifty successful years!
